WHO ARE WE?
10 June, 2022

It would be much less time consuming if I just sent you a generic email. Written by someone else and full of platitudes. And loads of stuff that’s been cut pasted from wherever I can find it and telling you what I think you want to read. Or perhaps hear. Maybe even a ‘last minute discount’ or an ‘early bird’ booking incentive. What about some stock library images bought online? I’ve thought about it often and it would be easier, but I just can’t do it. It wouldn’t feel right.

I recently listened to a very good podcast. So good that I’ve forgotten the name of it. The distinct theme was ‘I’ve done nothing, but I know better than you’. There’s a lot of this around right now and I’ve been bombarded with it. We were contacted recently by a US based company offering their services for operating in the mountains. The Indian Himalayas in particular. I never got to the bottom of what they were trying to sell. I was curious though. I eventually discovered that I was being advised by a ‘Customer Liaison Representative’ working remotely from home. I still don’t know where home was for them. Even getting a name was an issue.

I asked for a chat with them, over the internet of course, but was refused. I wasn’t really interested anyway. I was just curious as to who this person and company might be. They purported know so much about the Himalayas and I was wondering how I had never bumped into them or met them while leading a group. Maybe at a chai stop, some overnight camp, on the world’s highest motorable road or while waiting for the snow to be cleared at over 17,000 feet. I’ve been stuck up on a high pass at night. In the dark with cold pouring rain while the army dynamite a landslide. I could have done with a chat and bit of company to be honest. But no, they never showed. Funny that!

Then, a few days later, someone had mentioned on social media that Nomadic Knights shouldn’t really be considered as there was a much better and authentic You Tube channel to watch. One of the team forwarded it to me with great confusion. What You Tube channel? Well, we do have a You Tube Channel as such but that’s not really where we’re coming from. How weird eh? We are, and always have been a motorcycle adventure company based in India. All the team, myself, my wife, and family, all live in India. My purpose for being here was to ride motorcycles and discover India. And more.
No travel agents, no customer representatives, no commissions, no third party selling, no rented motorcycles.
No brokers, no handlers, no promoters, no salespeople, no go-betweens, no delegates and no ten percenters.

The ‘shiny Instagram life’ might be good for some and hats off to them if it works. They obviously know something I don’t. But it’s not for us. Our stories (and YouTube channel) are because of what we do. We don’t do it to make stories. If we’re good enough, the stories write themselves. And they do.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, it’s myself and the team that you’ll be dealing with every time. They are born and bred in the Himalayas. They’ve lived there all their lives. They are truly skilled mountain men. When I need to know something, I ask them. I get real and authentic information. We’ve been working together for over 12 years.

They have never once missed a beat. They’re hard working, funny, conscientious, and deliver on time, every time.
They are quite simply, the best people I have ever worked with. They’re brilliant.
If you’ve ridden with me before, then you’ll already know this.
If not, and it’s your first time, we all look forward to riding with you.
Cheers.
Alex.

So you’re considering taking on a real adventure? I remember the feeling. In 2006, I was sat right where you are now… wondering if it was for me.
Join our mailing list – The Knight Club – and I’ll send my no-BS thoughts on why you should (or shouldn’t) take it on. No sales. No special offers. These rides aren’t for everyone, but if you’re the right kind of person, it can remind you what it means to be alive.
All the best, Alex.
