Ride: Roof Of India
Nothing can prepare you for the impact of this extreme motorcycle adventure. You’ll need a strong constitution and a well well-rounded positive attitude if you’re to enjoy it. A sense of humour is also essential.
Alex and his team,…. well not really. They feel like one big family, and everyone’s welcome.
I think they’re the best.
We experienced every sensual overload. Sound, smells, feelings, tastes and sights that throw your mind and imagination into overdrive. The new and lasting friendships you’ll make on this adventure will help you through anything and everything.
Readjusting when getting home is tough.
You have to come down from a massive high and adjust your senses to normal life, if there can be such a thing after this.
Will I be booking another ride?
Hell yes!

Attack on the senses
Ride: Roof Of India
After returning from riding the Roof Of India, I struggle to summarise such an adventure. The trip was recommended to me by a friend who had done multiple rides with Alex and his team and the stories gave me high expectations.
The trip did not disappoint in any capacity and exceeded every expectation in every way. From start to finish, every aspect of this extreme motorcycle adventure gave me huge levels of adrenaline fuelled excitement and a genuine sense of achievement in huge proportions.
Most striking for me was the dramatic changes in scenery and road conditions, the variety of super friendly people and the different cultures we experienced along the way. And the amount of unusual wild animals we encountered.
No two days felt the same. However, the one thing that remained constant was the smiles, laughter and camaraderie each evening over dinner. Whether in a hotel or around the camp fire.
Would I recommend this trip, no – I would insist on this trip.
You haven’t lived until you’ve participated, shared and contributed to a journey like this.

Ride: Roof Of India
I had the most incredible adventure riding with Nomadic Knights through the breath-taking Himalayas!
The winding mountain roads, the stunning vistas, and the camaraderie among fellow riders made it the experience of a lifetime.
Thanks to their expert guidance and first class organisation.
It's a journey I'll cherish forever.

This the best motorcycle adventure you will ever take
Ride: Roof Of India
What has this trip been for me?
Extreme and awe-inspiring scenery. Extreme and changeling road conditions with often extreme weather.
Most of all, extreme memories to treasure, with an extremely supportive support team. Often, they left us wondering how they would get through, only to show up minutes later.
This the best motorcycle adventure you will ever take. We forged lasting friendships and a passion for the world accessible on two wheels.
This is something my son and I will never forget. It’s left us feeling desperate for our next Extreme Motorcycle Adventure.

The July 2023 group would do the whole thing again
Ride: Roof Of India
After a long days ride through mud and along steep cliffs, we arrive at Sural Bhatori remote campsite. We find ourselves near the peak of vast mountains- amongst the white snow caps and green grass slopes. (not just descriptive words - literally what it is)
And there are two local villages playing cricket on the slopes with loud speaker blaring commentary and local music in overdrive. The local ladies are cheering the teams just up the slopes. And after, whilst having tea, they all danced around in a circle.
All I can say is fuuuuuuuuuu***####..... this is surreal!
Six weeks on and I’m still buzzing about the experiences and the challenges of being a novice rider on a sensory overload ride like this one. Amazing views, tough riding, incredible culture, new friendships, and a full life experience that imprints in your psyche. It’s way more than motorcycle riding, honestly.
Coming from a worldview where we want to be in control of everything, riding the Roof of India, and at times not knowing if we’d get to our destination due to landslides or the plethora of other obstacles that exist, makes for an incredibly freeing experience. It forces you to be in the moment and just enjoy it, with no option but to keep going forward.
We didn’t know if the support vehicles would be able meet us at the next destination, or whether it would rain, or be a billion degrees. (pictured)
Thanks to Alex and Vidhya for such an incredible life experience that we’ll never forget. And for having such an amazing support crew. (I always hanging with the sweeper)
I’m 100% certain all the July 2023 group would do the whole thing again in a heartbeat.

This trip is not for the feint hearted. It is full on. Every day.

This trip is not for the feint hearted. It is full on. Every day.
Ride: Roof Of India
It was awesome, testing, emotional, awe inspiring, challenging, rewarding amongst many more adjectives. It was so much more than I expected. Fabulous.
The reason why I chose to do this trip with Nomadic Knights was the fact that they stood out in seeming to know their stuff. On the ground, it is so much more than that. The weather conditions from day one meant constantly changing plans, routes, accommodation, you name it.
Alex and his crew are at the top of their game. Every detail of these trips has been honed by years of experience by a team who not only live in India but have an absolute passion for what they do.
This trip is not for the feint hearted.
It is full on. Every day.
But is so much more than the riding or the terrain or the scenery. It is as much about the comradery and the sense of all being in it together, joined by a common glue of love of bikes and adventure. We had as much fun once the riding was done as we did doing the rides.
There were days when I was pushed to the edge both mentally and physically but , as soon as the riding was done for the day with was replaced with an overwhelming feeling of achievement. Time for food and beer and conversation with likeminded mates.
I wouldn't do another trip like this with anyone else.

Ride: Roof Of India
This trip had everything.
Monsoon rains, landslides, fording and washed out rivers. An incredible adventure all set in the epic scale of the Himalayan Mountains. We rode through villages and towns teeming with people and into mountain landscapes which were completely empty and on a vast scale.
We stayed on houseboats, in hotels, and even camped.
Alex and his crew are masters of organisation.
Any problems were swiftly dealt with. Bikes were fixed and routes changed quickly to avoid landslides.
The rest of the riders were great. We all got on very well and I have made some new friends.
It was a fantastic experience and was a very well organised ride.

Loved every minute

Loved every minute
Ride: Grand Canyon India
India’s Grand Canyon - it is all part of the adventure and South India is fantastic.
In short, the Nomadic Knights team are fabulous. My mind, heart and soul are better for knowing them.
From my first swim in the Arabian Sea and meeting up with the other riders, I knew this was going to be a great trip. The ride took us through so many different terrains. The dry heat of the coast, the shady coolness of the jungle, the wildlife of the Western Ghats, the open landscapes and colours of agriculture as we continued east. The calm stillness of sunrise at the Grand Canyon to the busy energy of the Murdeshwar market.
Riding a Bullet in India is life changing for the better. The support and organisation of the team is well oiled and professional, leaving you able to focus on the riding.
I thoroughly enjoyed the challenges of the ride, some days more eventful than others, and loved every minute.
Live Life. Love Adventure.

See you on the next ride
Ride: Roof Of India
The Roof of India was a true adventure from the get go.
The ride didn’t disappoint one bit. It’s crazy driving in India compared to the USA but fun and exciting at the same time. The roads were challenging in a way that commands you to focus and pay attention.
If you look around for a second, you may find yourself in a ditch, pot hole, or colliding with a sleeping cow in the middle of the road.
The Himalayas are something you have to see in person. So get off the couch and sign up for the ride of your life.
Alex and his team were absolutely great and got us to our destination safely, which at times, you really didn’t think would be possible.
I did this two up with my girl who was a real trooper never complained. She rode the whole route as pillion on the Royal Enfield Himalayan.
Cheers, and see you on the next ride.

Ride: Rode To Everest
We finally went on this ride after delaying for a couple of years due to Covid, and I can say that it was definitely worth the wait. I went with a few friends and came out with a lot more, thanks to the ragtag bunch of adventure seekers.
I had the absolute privilege of celebrating my birthday at Everest base camp, a birthday I will never forget.
Thanks to Alex and the team for making it special.
I'll very likely be coming back for another trip with Nomadic Knights.
I can highly recommend it.

Ride: Roof Of India
Nomadic Knights are a tight operation that cope with the changing circumstances effortlessly.
Spanner spinning and road side repairs are executed in a blink of an eye!
Drivers get the luggage through places that would put Wells Fargo to shame!
During the course of the ride, phrases from Alex's initial briefing rattled around my head. And, upon reflection, they made perfect sense.
The Team are masters of their craft.

Having just completed the India’s Lost World recce trip with Alex and his team, I have to say what a fantastic adventure it was. Michael Phillips
Will remember it for the rest of my life
Travel to a new country, on a different motorcycle and meet new friends (and soon to become lifelong friends), challenge your ability in so many ways, go outside your comfort zone, experience a new culture and viewpoint on life and learn more about yourself.
We’ve all heard these claims before but a trip to the Himalayas really does all of these at the same time. I travelled there in 2010 and I will remember it for the rest of my life. Despite riding motorcycles for over 25 years, nothing prepares you for the onslaught to your senses while driving in the Himalayas. Alex was our leader on this trip and added to the experience with his obvious love and passion for India and extensive local knowledge. Looking after such a diverse group through tough terrain is no easy task but he did it every time. It’s a no brainer… just do it!

A life changing experience

Mark Tucker
A life changing experience
My first motorcycle trip with Alex and what a trip it was! On a 14 day tour of Rajasthan on Royal Enfield 500cc Bullets we experienced rural and urban India in a way that just would not be possible any other way. The colours, smells and sights as we made our way through Rajasthan will remain with me for ever more. We witnessed the basic way of life in the remote villages to the absolute chaos of the cities, creating immense local interest whenever we stopped highlighting what different worlds we come from. A life changing experience.

My smile says it all
I still struggle to describe the trip to those who ask me about it and am reminded of the wisdom of Wally Herbert (the first man to cross the Arctic Ocean) who once said: “Those who need to ask will never understand the answer, while others who feel the answer will never need to ask.” Although to those who do ask me about it, I suspect my smile says it all.

Organisation and execution was faultless

Organisation and execution was faultless
I travelled through the Himalayas with Alex on a Royal Enfield 500cc Bullet. I took thousands of photographs but none could really capture the impact it had on me. The sights I saw, the people I met, the lasting friendships I made and the experiences I had will stay with me forever. I was free to enjoy my adventure because the organisation and execution was faultless. Thanks guys.

Himalayas holds you, mesmerises you & terrifies you

Neil Paterson
Himalayas holds you, mesmerises you & terrifies you
Who would have possibly thought it, the humble Enfield flying amongst the clouds, diving into rivers and crashing over and through the rock strewn terrain and not only surviving but thriving. This little defiant motorcycle has made me think of all the similarities that it has with this part of the world. The people live a simple, uncomplicated life often battling with the elements and harsh landscape that they find themselves tied to, yet provide the stranger with a warmth of spirit along with a beautiful smile that we seldom see or have the opportunity to embrace. The almost barren, unforgiving landscape of the Himalayas holds you, mesmerises you, and terrifies you only to lead you around the corner and take your breath away. So long live the Enfield, humble, defiant King of the road.

This adventure has exceeded my wildest dreams; kicking my Royal Enfield into life, I contemplate what has just passed. It's overwhelming, it's life changing & it's absolutely fantasic

Bob Jefferies
It's overwhelming, it's life changing & it's absolutely fantasic
This is not just about riding an Enfield Bullet motorbike through the Himalayas, although that’s an adventure in itself; it’s much more than that. This adventure is something you have to experience yourself to understand – ask anyone who’s been. You meet new people, see how they work and live and make lots of new best friends. You ride roads, go places, do things and see sights that others only dream of. You start an adventure and end up completely changing your life. Riding in the Himalayas once is just not enough, your brain just cannot absorb everything you do, see and experience on just one trip, it’s overwhelming, its life changing, and it’s absolutely fantastic – do it – now!

Bob Jefferies

Life didn’t get any better than this

Norman Scobie
Life didn’t get any better than this
I’ve been at the birth of my children, swam with a pod of wild dolphins in the Atlantic, and skied on days God would have made for himself to enjoy; but along with those best days of my life, now belong those spent traversing the Himalayas. We were blessed with a group of people that after 2 weeks felt more like family than friends, good weather that allowed us to enjoy the journey and the landscape, and the certain knowledge that life didn’t get any better than this. I used hyperbole like awesome and unbelievable continually on the journey but since I got back I’ve dropped those from every day speech, it would seem like being unfaithful to use them elsewhere to the Himalayas.

Norman Scobie

Sheer joy & exhilaration

Andy Wellesley
Sheer joy & exhilaration
I feel privileged to have visited a magical place and to have shared experiences with such a great bunch of people. It wasn’t just the country, the things we did and the places we saw that made it for me, but it was all the guys and gals that took part that made it really special.
Thank you to everyone. I have so many good memories of the journey and a few that will remain very strong: The first of many Kingfisher beers at the hotel in Leh. The first proper local meal in the German Bakery in Leh with Treve, by candlelight (a necessity rather than choice I hasten to add as there was a power cut!).
The comfort of a bed after the long, long day to Tso Moriri even if it was outside. The sheer joy and exhilaration of riding flat out with Dave along the rocky valley floor before climbing up and over into the Spitti Valley. Deep fried Mo-Mo’s! The relief that Norman didn’t snore (too much!) The whiskey fest at the campsite in Nako – and I normally hate the stuff! Beating Jon at pool in Shimla (it had nothing to do with the money!) The onion bhajis on arrival at Sam’s place in Narkanda when cold wet and very tired (although I wont rush to eat them with tomato sauce any time soon). There are so many others.

Andy Wellesley

Most dramatic and beautiful scenery

Michael Milich
Most dramatic and beautiful scenery
It needed a bit of time to go by for me to absorb the significance of the adventure in the sky. At the time of the trip we were a group of likeminded individuals doing what we love the most and enjoying the challenges every day presented. At times it was not easy thumping along on our faithful Enfields over mountain passes that may have challenged some more contemporary purpose designed motorcycles. But if it was easy it would not have had the same meaning it has now in the afterglow of the trip.
We travelled through some of the most dramatic and beautiful scenery I have ever seen. Almost every moment had a mountain, river, valley or some other natural phenomenon that simply took ones breath away. A number of weeks after the ride I look back on the adventure and think how fortunate I have been to have experienced the beauty of the Himalaya and the companionship of a group of great bikers. The entire experience in a word – awesome! Would I do it again – you bet!

Michael Milich

So much fun

Maurice Summerson
So much fun
I’ve done many adventure rides, on many continents, both solo and guided, but the Indian Himalaya’s are unique! The altitude, vastness, exhilarating FUN roads and tracks, military fuel tankers equivalent to The Ice Road Truckers, fabulously fickle weather and road conditions all contribute to the uniqueness. Then there are the wonderful local people with characteristic fine spirit and hospitality. Particularly the kids, the future… look in their sparkling eyes. Not to forget the iconic 50-years old design ‘Bullet’ the perfect eccentric tool for this adventure experience.
So much FUN to coax and chug up to 18,340ft, then chug a little more briskly down again. Oh, and the odd bulldozer landslide sections and water splashes. My ‘Bullet’ loved it, and no scars. The support team of guides, medics, mechanics, trucks and local ‘Fixer’ are all commended for their personal enthusiasm, experience and capabilities.

Maurice Summerson
