READY TO RIDE
CHAPTER THIRTY
Welcome to chapter thirty of our ‘Ready To Ride’ short stories series.
These are five quick snapshots of what we do, where we ride, the laughs had, and the general shenanigans and goings on, while riding together over the Himalayas & through South India.
I’m posting these every Friday, and they’re an easy read, a few minutes are all you need.
Enjoy!
Alex Pirie
Founder & Lead Rider

“South India is fantastic.
From my first swim in the Arabian Sea and meeting up with the other riders, I knew this was going to be a great trip.
The ride took us through so many different terrains. The dry heat of the coast, the shady coolness of the jungle, the wildlife of the Western Ghats, the open landscapes and colours of agriculture as we continued east. The calm stillness of sunrise at the Grand Canyon to the busy energy of the Murdeshwar market.
Riding a Bullet in India is life-changing for the better.
The support and organisation of the team is well-oiled and professional, leaving you able to focus on the riding.
I thoroughly enjoyed the challenges of the ride, some days more eventful than others, and loved every minute” – Becs.
Becs is right – South India is fantastic.
If you haven’t had a chance to explore these ancient lands, our Grand Canyon India ride is the perfect way to experience South India and see just how special it is.

Eye-opening.
Awe-inspiring.
Jaw-dropping.
Arse breaking.
Friendship making.
Life-changing.
Inspirational.
and Just.
Completely. Awesome.
These are just some of the many words our riders have used to describe our Roof Of India adventure.
We get it.
We wouldn’t come back if we didn’t agree.
These rides do something to you.
They change your perspective and remind you what life is really about.
What words would you use to describe the Roof Of India?

One of the most important things you can bring with you is…
A sense of humour!
Beyond the obvious essentials like helmets, gloves, and gear, this might just be the most valuable thing to pack.
Why?
Because these are long, challenging days in the saddle.
They will test you.
They will put you through your paces.
A good sense of humour and a dash of humility help us stay light-hearted in the toughest moments and make the journey that much more enjoyable.

We’re the goat?!
The other day, we were told that Nomadic Knights is the goat.
We weren’t sure whether to take this as an insult or just a bizarre conversation until we were informed by the younger generation that being the goat is a very good thing these days.
Apparently, it’s an acronym, and G.O.A.T translates to greatest of all time.
You learn something every day, right?
This Saturday, we’ll be commencing our first Roof Of India adventure of the year, where we’ll pass plenty of nomadic shepherds herding their goats; we may even share a campfire with them.

The long and lonely road…
On Day 5 of our Rode To Everest ride, we cross the border from Nepal into Tibet and start ascending the Tibetan Plateau.
This is a vast, desolate, and lonely landscape.
You can ride for hours without seeing another soul.
It’s in these moments that the noise of the world falls silent, leaving only ourselves and our thoughts.
As we ride through the mountains that dwarf us, we begin to truly reflect – the things that come to mind might even surprise you.
Many riders find peace in these quiet stretches.
We understand why.
Enjoy the ride.
I’ll see you on the next one.
JOIN THE
KNIGHT CLUB
So you’re considering taking on a real adventure? I remember the feeling. In 2006, I was sat right where you are now… wondering if it was for me.
Join our mailing list – The Knight Club – and I’ll send my no-BS thoughts on why you should (or shouldn’t) take it on. No sales. No special offers. These rides aren’t for everyone, but if you’re the right kind of person, it can remind you what it means to be alive.
All the best, Alex.
