READY TO RIDE
CHAPTER SEVENTY-SEVEN
Welcome to chapter seventy-seven of our ‘Ready To Ride’ short stories series.
These are five quick snapshots of what we do, where we ride, the laughs had, and the general shenanigans and goings-on while riding together over the Himalayas & through South India.
I’m posting these every Friday, and they’re an easy read; a few minutes are all you need.
Enjoy!

Young at heart and in mind…
How many times have you been asked if you’re too old for motorcycle trips?
For some reason, when you reach a certain age, society seems to want you to act it.
As if there’s an invisible age threshold when it comes to having fun.
But there’ll be no pipe and slippers for us just yet!
Just because you’re older doesn’t mean you can’t partake in your lifelong passions.
If you’re still able, why not embrace adventure and pursue your dreams?
At the end of the day, age is just a number and a state of mind.
So make use of the time we have and live life to the fullest.
Whilst we still can.
Do the things you love, and don’t let anyone ever tell you you’re too old.

“Having ridden the Roof Of India with Alex previously, I thought I’d seen the Himalayas.
How wrong I was!
Glimpsing the snow-covered peaks from the warmth of Kathmandu was surreal.
Once in Tibet, the roads are amazing, with twisty, smooth tarmac taking you over high pass after high pass with the views growing in majesty with each summit.
Lhasa is an amazing city, and the visit to Potala Palace left us feeling very honoured to have seen such an important part of Tibetan history.
The day of the ride to Base Camp afforded us incredible views of Everest and its neighbouring peaks as we made our way closer to our goal.
To see the world’s tallest mountain at the end of the valley from where we would camp for the night was a truly unforgettable experience.
I couldn’t stop looking at it and have many photos of the incredible sunset and sunrise. I am still absolutely buzzing from the ride.
It’s an experience that I’ll never forget” – Steve.
Steve gets it. Adventures like this surprise even the most experienced riders. And for good reason!

The calm before the storm…
There’s something about the morning of day one.
After having time to settle down in India, it’s all about to change.
Both anticipation and excitement fill the air.
We pack up our bags and load the support truck.
You see riders patting themselves down, checking that they’ve remembered everything. Jokes are cracked, and we get ourselves familiar with our motorcycles.
There’s a moment when the realisation of what’s about to happen sinks in.
After waiting weeks, months, and maybe even years, we’re about to leave for the adventure of a lifetime in the south of India.
As the temperature and humidity start to creep up, we congregate in the shade, ready for the daily briefing.
Here, we run through the route, any questions riders might have, and make notes in the one and only ride guide.

“The best way to predict the future is to create it” – Abraham Lincoln.
The future isn’t something that simply happens to us; it’s something we actively shape.
While it’s easy to become fixated on what lies ahead, we often overlook the power we hold in the present.
Every choice we make, every habit we build, and every action we take today becomes the foundation of our tomorrow.
By being intentional with our decisions now, we step into the role of creators of our future rather than passive observers.
If adventure motorcycling is something you want to see more of in your future, take the actions that will bring you closer to that reality.
Take the test, do the rally, book the adventure.
Take control of your future.
Enjoy the ride.
I’ll see you on the next one.

KNIGHT CLUB
So you’re considering taking on a real adventure? I remember the feeling. In 2006, I was sat right where you are now… wondering if it was for me.
Join our mailing list – The Knight Club – and I’ll send my no-BS thoughts on why you should (or shouldn’t) take it on. No sales. No special offers. These rides aren’t for everyone, but if you’re the right kind of person, it can remind you what it means to be alive.
All the best, Alex.
